Guanyun Lab at Zhejiang University has designed ThermoFit in Hangzhou, China.

This project is an innovation in customising wearable devices that provide support, protection, and stability with electronic intelligence.

Integrating electronics with low-temperature thermoplastic materials, ThermoFit allows two-dimensional circuit boards to be heated to a soft state and shaped directly onto the body.

Algorithmically-generated parametric metamaterial structure patterns improve conformity to complex and organic body shapes and enable fine-tuning of the electronic component placement when body shapes or medical requirements change.

Therefore, ThermoFit is destined to transform a variety of critical fields, from e-jewellery and fashion to physical medicine and rehabilitation and ultimately, healthcare delivery and human-robot integration.

This project has been longlisted in the wearable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
