Pilares Pedro Vélez community centre is located in Iztapalapa, one of the most populated municipalities in Mexico City.

The project is distributed over two floors that are interconnected by a system of platforms, courtyards, bridges and corridors.

It was designed as a public multifunctional space to remove literal and figurative barriers to a meeting point for the community. The structure acts as a recreational cultural oasis in a densely populated area – located on a small plot, the building's open spaces, minimal materials, concrete and steel, and spacious proportions create a feeling of abundance from scarcity to reactivate the social fabric of the neighbourhood.

This project has been shortlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
