Public vote winner for cultural building of the year: Dorte Mandrup designed the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre in Sermermiut, Greenland.

This project, set in the harsh yet beautiful Arctic landscape, blends effortlessly into the vast terrain of the UNESCO-protected Kangia Icefjord.

Offering a unique vantage point to experience the astonishing Icefjord, the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre provides a space to comprehend the dramatic consequences of climate change.

Through a synergy of architecture, art and science, this project conveys the significance of the ancient landscape – challenging and expanding our understanding of the ice sheet and its great importance to the world we are all part of.

Designed with nature in mind, the aerodynamic Ilulissat Icefjord Centre levitates slightly over the terrain, creating a dynamic movement where you can experience the true majesty of the Icefjord as you move through the space.
