Mork Ulnes Architects has designed The Silver Lining House in San Francisco, United States.

After a fire, the house – now known as The Silver Lining House – was rebuilt by Mork Ulnes Architects for an architectural photographer and interior designer.

Conceptually, the project functions as a container for the pair's furniture and art collections, as well as a laboratory for their work. The proportions, scale, and massing reinterpret the context of its Victorian neighbours on the steep San Francisco streetscape.

The previous small and purple Victorian house was replaced with a black modern house, sharing silhouettes with its neighbours and contextually integrating into the San Francisco building typology in a new form.

Inside, objects clad in textures, patterns, and materiality reflect the owners' collective creative spirit.

This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
