Avenier Cornejo has restructured the Sara Weill-Raynal EHPAD in Paris, France.

Located in a formerly working-class neighbourhood of fin-de-siècle brick buildings and Modernist slab blocks, the original site was home to a 1970s EHPAD (retirement home) that lacked modern standards and regulations. Rather than demolish or refurbish, the city opted for a drastic transformation.

"The incompatibility of the current building with its function and the lack of clarity of its urban environment made us think [of] the present project as a solution to regain coherence on several levels," said Avenier Cornejo.

The studio focused on rethinking the spaces with the purpose of readapting them as well as possible to the new requirements of the program.

Additionally, the project aims to bring architectural coherence to Rue Pelleport by seeking alignment with the buildings located near the project.

This project has been longlisted in the health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
