Formwerkz Architects has developed the Pet Crematorium in Lim Chu Kang, Singapore.

This project is a pet crematorium that deviates from the norm where the nature of the service is largely utilitarian.

"It chooses to give time and space for the rituals of sending off a deceased pet, to grieve, reconcile, and remember," said Formwerkz Architects. "To acknowledge the importance of other sentient beings but also...for the living."

Taking advantage of the long site and existing buildings, a layered procession begins at the entrance hall.

"The bereaved set foot along a tranquil linear garden that leads to the Service Hall [where] a formal symmetry along this route emphasises the solemnness of the ceremony, preparing one for the final send-off," added Formwerkz.

This project has been longlisted in the small project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
