Tree Says「」
by Hakuten CO., LTD.

Hakuten has created the Tree Says「」installation.

Sarushima Island has many historical sites from the Second World War, along with magnificent nature.

At the site of the former turrets, there’s a large tree that is symbolic of nature’s encroachment and co-existence with man-made structures.

“This work is sensing the tree and outputting the vibrations and sounds hidden within it,” said Hakuten. “It is full of a sense of life that cannot be imagined from a tree standing quietly.”

People use their imagination to find meaning in the sounds and vibrations transmitted by the trees, creating a new point of contact between trees, people and nature.

This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
