Beijing Institute of Architectural Design has created the Falling Hours installation.

"The hourglass is a record of the time we have forgotten," said the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design.

For the 2023 New Year's Eve installation on the beach of Aranya, the designers proposed the 'Falling Hours' project based on-site.

The concept was that when the New Year's bell rings, people would pull the ribbon to open the hourglass and the sand would pour down instantly, thus welcoming in the New Year together.

As a result, the building materials (sand and ice) are taken from nature and returned to nature, focusing on the sustainability of the building.

This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
