ISM Architecten has renovated and extended the BEEV project in Beerse, Belgium.

This project is a renovation and extension of a modernist single-storey house by the architect Paul Neefs, an exemplary Belgian architect from the 1960s.

"In engaging with the existing building, we sought ways to enhance its functionality, energy efficiency and comfort while preserving its historical and cultural significance," said ISM Architecten.

The pronounced graphical elements of the original plan, the two circle segments, formed the basis for the new layout and extension.

Through the care, skilled craftsmanship and innovative design solutions applied in the renovation process, this modern icon is transformed into a contemporary space that serves its occupants for years to come.

This project has been shortlisted in the house extension category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
