Kooo Architects has designed the Freitag store in Shanghai, China.

The Freitag store in Shanghai goes beyond a traditional understanding of retail – where Freitag reused discarded materials not only for its bags but also in its store design.

Rubble from building sites was turned into walls and the temporary hoarding panels were transformed into the characteristic facade.

"A landscaped roof terrace open to the public promotes biodiversity and people in the neighbourhood help to inject it with life," said Kooo.

This project has been shortlisted in the sustainable interior category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
