Philip Stejskal Architecture has designed the Broome Street House in Perth, Australia.

Set on a prominent Cottesloe site, this new house build was inspired by family holidays to Wadjemup/Rottnest, while maximising on its elevated position.

Despite a three-metre slope, two street frontages and foot traffic, the design skill fully balances privacy and curated views of the Indian Ocean, Fremantle Port, Perth's CBD and the Darling Escarpment.

Materials such as a brick base with a light board-and-batten exterior and cork and timber interiors evoke both playfulness and calm.

The house's layered horizontal and vertical spaces engage with the surroundings and provide constant surprises as seasons shift, offering a seamless blend of openness and retreat.

This project has been longlisted in the house urban category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
