Archikon Architects has designed Children's Grove on the Hill, a childcare complex incorporating a nursery, kindergarten, pediatric clinic and playground in Budapest, Hungary.
Located in Budapest's Madárhegy area, a rapidly developing neighbourhood attracting young families, there was a growing need for childcare and healthcare facilities.
To address this, the municipality initiated the creation of a "children’s grove", incorporating a nursery, kindergarten, pediatric clinic and playground.
The site is divided into functional courtyards by the mass of buildings, separating the different areas of use: the nursery and kindergarten courtyards, the playground, and the recreational garden.
To help the children find their way around, the upper storeys of the buildings are different in shape and the colour of the glazed ceramic tiles. As a result, this creates a distinction between the functional units that is visible to the children.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
