Architectus has revitalised the United Nations' historic Africa Hall during a landmark decade-long renovation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The 1961 Arturo Mezzèdimi modernist masterpiece in Addis Ababa has played a key role in shaping modern African history. It now stands as a world-class conference and cultural venue.
The ECA initiated the renovation in collaboration with UNESCO, the African Union and the Ethiopian Government, with Architectus (formerly Conrad Gargett, which merged with Architectus in 2023) engaged to lead the design.
Along with a permanent exhibition design, new signage and wayfinding were also incorporated as part of the heritage works for Africa Hall.
This project has been longlisted in the heritage project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
