Kranen/Gille have designed the interiors of Simmerhûs, a Terschelling summerhouse inspired by traditional barns in Hoorn, the Netherlands.
Hidden behind the church is the oldest building on the pastoral Dutch island of Terschelling (a UNESCO World Heritage site), now known as Simmerhûs.
This sustainably designed, contemporary home echoes the island's picturesque, original barns, presenting a rich, dark wood exterior and a sharp, saddle roof line.
The newly built structure offers a fresh take on Japandi design, where a handmade, playful interior crafted of wild pine and ash is demonstrated by Dutch designers Kranen/Gille.
This project has been longlisted in the residential interior (small) category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
