Freadman White has designed 131 Smith Street, a 39-apartment project that reinterprets the area's heritage fabric through materiality, proportion and rhythm in Melbourne, Australia.
131 Smith Street is a multi-residential project in Fitzroy, Melbourne, that blends contextual design with the area's historical character.
The interior features a rich material palette, transitioning from deep tones in the foyer to lighter, warmer spaces in the apartments, while natural timber, refined marble and bespoke joinery create a calm, inviting atmosphere.
Diverse apartment typologies promote inclusivity and a multi-generational community. Inspired by modernist principles, the design maximises natural light and cross-ventilation.
A thoughtful gradation of colour and texture guides residents through the space, enhancing sensory experience and reinforcing a sense of refined simplicity.
This project has been longlisted in the mixed use project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
