Alex Chinneck Studio has designed the headline installation, A Week at the Knees, an elegant, four-storey, rippling building facade, for Clerkenwell Design Week 2025.
Made with 320 metres of repurposed steel, 7,000 bricks and bespoke, bending windows, drainpipe and door, Alex Chinneck's 'rippling building' revisits the bending brickwork and sculptural language of the artist's 'Sliding House' in Margate, which introduced fluidity to a typically inflexible form.
Conceived for Charterhouse Square and modelled on the Georgian architecture that surrounds it, the immersive sculpture playfully reconfigures a four-storey brick facade.
A week at the knees stands 5.5 metres tall, is 13.5 metres long and weighs 11.5 tonnes, yet the freestanding façade is a mere 15 centimetres deep, giving the work an elegant, almost weightless quality.
This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
