Atelier Robotiq has designed Sway, a woven light sculpture inspired by the swaying grasses of Naoshima.
Inspired by the swaying grasses of Naoshima Island, Sway is a poetic lighting piece that offers a Dutch twist on Japanese lantern making.
Drawing from the layered aesthetics of traditional Japanese lanterns and the translucency of washi paper, Anne-Lise and Søren developed a new robotic weaving technique – merging craft and code to create the subtle overlapping of patterns in a new material language.
The result is a lamp that not only emits a soft, diffuse glow, but also embodies lightness and motion – suspended on a slender pole, anchored in a sculptural stone base that references natural terrains like riverbeds and dunes.
This project has been longlisted in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
