Studio Agne has designed Stone Waste is Bliss, repurposing discarded stone into functional ceramic surfaces.

Stone Waste is Bliss addresses industrial waste in the natural stone and ceramic industries by repurposing discarded granite, quartzite, limestone and travertine into ceramic surfaces.

Traditional ceramics rely on virgin raw materials, contributing to environmental degradation. Instead, this project integrates stone waste, reducing mining demand, landfill waste and chemical usage.

During firing, granite inclusions form delicate, flower-like patterns due to the presence of iron, eliminating the need for pigments. High-temperature-resistant granite also bonds to ceramics without adhesives, ensuring durability while avoiding harmful glues.

This method enables integrated three-dimensional elements like handles, hooks and small shelves, expanding the functional possibilities of ceramic surfaces.

This project has been longlisted in the surface design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
