Beijing Pro Lighting Design has designed the architectural lighting for the Chongqing Science Auditorium.
A monumental fusion of hidden LEDs and natural metaphors, Chongqing Auditorium's lighting harmonises scale with intimacy through precision engineering, interactive narratives and poetic abstraction of mountains, water and fog.
This lighting design reimagines Chongqing Auditorium's colossal form by embedding 26,550 metres of LEDs into corrugated facades, skylights and perforated ceilings.
Inspired by Chongqing's mountains, rivers and fog, it employs angular customisation, dual-beam shadow elimination and 66,546 twinkling points to simulate natural light.
Interactive floor disks intensify with human presence, while media-enhanced facades dissolve boundaries into water-like reflections.
By treating light as both a structural material and a cultural metaphor, the design balances technical rigour with poetic storytelling, transforming a monumental space into an immersive, human-scaled landmark.
This project has been longlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
