Ni Dongbo has designed the interiors of Ourio, a coffee shop in Ningbo, China.
Historically, this project's building was a place of rest; however, the architects Ni Dongo wanted to redevelop this ideology using modern techniques to create the pavilion, the main interior space of the coffee shop.
"From the outset of our spatial design, we prioritised mobility, transformation and modularity," said Ni Dongo. "We reduced the fixed design of the customer-facing areas and created the space with a minimalist approach."
As a result, the interiors not only convey the essence of the space but also serve as a focal point and draw visitors.
In addition, its disassembly logic improves construction efficiency and allows for complete dismantling and reconstruction elsewhere if required, reinforcing the construction principles of traditional Chinese architecture.
This project has been longlisted in the bar and cafe interior category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
