Sara Gelibter Architecte has designed the extension and renovation of a new coral-red roof on Felsenburg, above the old town of Biel-Bienne, Switzerland.

A new coral-coloured roof stands over the historic city centre of Biel-Bienne and draws an elegant silhouette on the horizon.

This long, narrow volume, clad on the outside with corrugated fibre cement panels and with wooden structures proudly visible on the short sides, crowns the building known as the 'Felsenburg'.

Located just 60 centimetres from a railway line and in a protected area, the intervention blends in with the existing architecture and testifies to a contemporary character that simultaneously respects the past and the history of pre-existence.

This project has been shortlisted in the house extension category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
