Studio Cadena has designed the Domino Square Building, a layered hybrid of architecture, landscape and infrastructure that establishes a vibrant civic space at the heart of Brooklyn's waterfront in New York, United States.
The Domino Square Building defines a porous edge designed to reinforce an active street life. With piers of varying sizes lining three sides of the block, the perimeter structure forms a street-facing loggia housing retail spaces and entry points to the park.
This figural edge acts as a filter between the street and the public square, shaping an unmistakable urban form that marks a gateway to the waterfront.
The building's colonnade offers a soft, permeable boundary, inviting the public inward while providing a sense of enclosure and intimacy within the outdoor civic space.
As a result, the architecture shapes the topography of the park above.
This project has been shortlisted in the mixed use project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
