L Architects designed the interiors of In a Park, a renovation project of an original three-bedroom flat located in the north-east region of Singapore.
In a Park seeks to explore the beauty of everyday life by picking up simple, evocative clues like an old park, while abstracting a humble and ordinary building and rediscovering its hidden values, rooted in simplicity.
In this project, the architects wanted to demonstrate that very ordinary, simple materials with good detailing can elevate the mundane and that "innovation does not necessarily mean using high-tech materials" and that they "still believe in the primitive aspects of old and forgotten materials," said L Architects.
"We decided to abstract a park setting for these plants. As we recall the older parks in Singapore, we realised that the double-bullnose brick was commonly used for outdoor benches, walkway edges and planters that were unique to park settings."
This project has been shortlisted in the residential interior (small) category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
