Blast Studio has designed Cupsan, a sustainable board material made from London's discarded coffee cups.
Cupsan is a radically sustainable and chemical-free board material made from locally collected coffee cup waste, manufactured in London by Blast Studio.
Made from 80 per cent used coffee cups, Cupsan is bonded with a natural starch-based binder, without resin, plastic, or chemicals.
At the ned of its life, it can be recycled and reprocessed through our system to become new material once again.
Cupsan has a natural stone-like texture and provides architects and designers with a circular alternative to traditional materials; it behaves like wood and can be used in similar applications, to create objects, furniture and interior wall cladding.
This project has been shortlisted in the surface design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
