POOR Collective among studios selected to create public designs for London housing development
Promotion: design studios POOR Collective, Raskl and Orakel Workshop have been selected to create public artwork and seating for a housing development in London, coordinated by development consultancy AND on behalf of developer Barratt London.
Set to be built in Wandsworth, the art interventions at the Springfield Village development intend to help form a creative and cultural identity in the area and encourage community participation.
Barratt London and AND selected POOR Collective and Raskl to develop artworks that will feature in Springfield Village's public space, which Barratt London claims will be the largest public park created in London since the 2012 Olympics.

The Five Ways of Being artwork, designed by POOR Collective and fabricated by Raskl, will feature five permanent metal artworks arranged along a walking trail, designed in response to the history of the Springfield Village site as a hub for mental health care.
Based on the five senses – sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste – it will aim to encourage pause and reflection among visitors
POOR Collective has previously worked on many public interventions in London, including a colourful transformation of a multi-use games area and an artwork-covered pavilion designed to draw attention to the City of London's night workers.

"Our proposal, Five Ways of Being, is a gentle trail of sculptural moments that invites people to slow down, reconnect with their senses, and find calm within the rhythms of everyday life," said POOR Collective co-founder Larry Botchway.
"Three of our members grew up locally, with one member's mother having previously worked at Springfield Hospital," he continued. "Through this commission, we aim to engage meaningfully with the site's history while collaborating closely with local communities to create something that feels rooted, welcoming, and relevant to the area."
"For us, this commission is about creating work that supports connection, reflects shared stories, and contributes meaningfully to the everyday life of the neighbourhood."

Orakel Workshop was commissioned to design two pieces of street furniture in The Lanes, the final residential phases to be built at Springfield Village, which will contain 1,400 new homes.
Early plans for the street furniture involve concrete or stone benches decorated with metal and ceramic inlays.

Members of the community and local stakeholders will be consulted during the design process for the commissions, with the final outcomes reflecting the local residents' wishes.
The final designs for the artworks and seating will be completed in August, with plans to commence installation in January 2027.
