Denizens of Design and DS Studio have designed the interiors of The Willow Play Cafe in Toronto, Canada.

A former neighbourhood bar is reimagined as a quintessential cafe and whimsical play landscape in Toronto.

This family-focused third space rejects clinical aesthetics in favour of walnut millwork, checkerboard linoleum and vintage lighting.

The interior unfolds through a keyhole portal into a world where STEM-based play is embedded directly into the architecture – while seating is integrated within the play field to balance adult comfort with proximity.

By merging hospitality rituals with developmental exploration, the design creates a cohesive sanctuary where leisure and discovery coexist.

As a result, this project redefined how urban families gather by prioritising both parental wellness and childhood wonder.
