Overtreders W has designed Bouwurk.

In the summer of 2025, Overtreders W built Bouwurk next to the Oldehove – Leeuwarden's famously leaning medieval tower.

Bouwurk is a cruciform structure of warm timber frames, colourful sails of retired hot-air balloon fabric and knitted wool panels, built with over 5,000 Frisian residents, craftspeople and businesses with local salvaged materials.

Standing for 70 days as a place for gathering, making, dancing, debating and celebration, the programme – entirely shaped by the community – turned a building into a summer.

When it ended, the structure was dismantled and every element was catalogued for reuse.
