Scott Whitby Studio has designed the retrofit of Church House in London, United Kingdom.

Scott Whitby Studio's retrofit of Church House in Westminster is the most comprehensive renewal of this Grade II-listed building in its modern history.

Decades of incremental alterations – raised floors, suspended ceilings and ad-hoc partitions – were stripped back to recover spatial clarity, daylight and natural ventilation.

In their place, an ambitious low-carbon material strategy was introduced: spray-applied cork insulation, over 6,000 square metres of cork flooring, graphene-based carbon-absorbing paints and natural clay plasters.

Together, these measures sequester approximately 1,260 tonnes of CO₂e, delivering a net-zero, carbon-negative workplace without compromising the building's historic fabric or civic character.
