Speirs Major Light Architecture and RSHP have designed the new Melbourne Metro Tunnel lighting.

As Melbourne Metro Tunnel's design evolved, simplified interiors elevated lighting into a defining architectural and civic element across five underground stations: Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac.

Designed by Speirs Major Light Architecture in collaboration with RSHP, the scheme transitions passengers from natural daylight into carefully curated artificial illumination that shapes orientation and civic identity within vast subterranean spaces.

The lighting humanises the underground experience by introducing warmth, clarity and a sense of scale.

Bespoke luminaires balance technical performance with architectural character, creating a distinctly Melburnian transport experience shaped by precision engineering and each station's unique design identity.
