Edward Linacre Studio, Kerstin Thompson Architects and Ambience Lighting have designed the recycled book lantern for Readings Bookstore.

Suspended within Readings Bookstore, the monumental lantern is crafted from the store's own discarded books, once rejected due to printing errors, now reimagined as a luminous architectural feature.

This transformation is more than functional; it is symbolic. The material returns to its place of origin with renewed purpose, guiding readers through the space and illuminating new narratives.

The installation embodies a closed-loop approach – reframing waste as potential, challenging disposability and affirming the enduring value of the printed word.

The result offers a quiet yet resonant commentary on sustainability, storytelling and design's responsibility in shaping a more resilient future.
