AtMa has designed Sur+Plus.

Sur+Plus asks how materials that become surplus through systems of production might be received rather than discarded and how coexistence might emerge.

"Surplus is not accidental; it is embedded within production itself," said AtMa. "Under the ordering system of required quantity and a few per cent, some materials remain unused after construction."

Using stainless-steel joints, Sur+Plus connects surplus fragments while preserving cracks, chips and traces of time.

Rather than homogenising materials, Sur+Plus allows different conditions and histories to coexist within collectable furniture objects.

As a result, this project makes visible what production structures often overlook: the surplus inherently generated through contemporary interior construction processes.
