Studio FSJ has designed the House Under the Pagoda in Beijing, China.

Located beneath a thousand-year-old pagoda and surrounded by forested hills, this project's site carries a strong collective memory that extends beyond its physical boundaries – shaped by memory rather than monumentality.

As opposed to treating the pagoda as a distant visual object, the design transforms its symbolic presence into a sequence of spatial experiences.

Elevated above the terrain, the House Under the Pagoda unfolds through courtyards, terraces and a tower-like volume that anchors daily life within a landscape of forests, mountains and enduring cultural presence.

Instead of creating a home that simply overlooks its surroundings, this project reinterprets local cultural memory as an inhabitable architectural framework, enabling its residents to experience the landscape, history and rhythms of the site as part of daily life.
