Dock4 Architects and Giles Newstead have designed the Simpsons Bay House in Simpsons Bay on Bruny Island, Australia.

Simpsons Bay House was created using a salvaged warehouse that was relocated to Bruny Island, just off the coast of Tasmania.

"The rural context and the shed structure complement the surrounding landscape and the existing farm structures," said Dock4 Architects.

As a result, the house is structured around island living, with large internal and external fires that allow year-round outdoor living and cooking and internal courtyards that mediate the climate throughout the colder winter months.

With a strong emphasis on the reuse of up to 50 per cent of materials – alongside local island artisans as part of the construction team – Simpsons Bay House is a greenhouse-style, sustainability-focused home, filled with warmer climate plant varieties and a new way of living.
