Zeller & Moye has designed Hotel Sevilla in Mérida, Mexico.

This project's inspiration came from local architecture, craftwork and rituals, evident in the now-restored XVIII-century villa – once an abandoned ruin.

Listed as a historical monument, Zeller & Moye have restored the building to new grandeur – reimagining it as a grand hotel, while maintaining the charm of its as-found condition.

"Our design approach follows the concept of a palimpsest," said Zeller & Moye.

"Present and past layers coexist next to each other and form one rich entity where one can still identify the interventions from different periods."
