Gelan Architects has designed The People's Yard in Taar, Iran.
In the rural village of Taar, a private residential project is transformed into a shared civic ground through the act of benefaction.
A portion of the plot is given back to the village and becomes The People’s Yard, a collective space structured as an expanded pirneshin.
At its centre, a qanat-fed water basin operates as a daily space for children's play and social gathering and seasonally transforms into an amphitheatre for performances and communal events.
This project dissolves the boundary between house and village, turning a domestic commission into a shared public infrastructure.
