TANN Architecture has designed the Volley Roper in Pretoria, South Africa.
The Volley Roper student housing project accommodates 155 students and introduces a new architectural identity along a key academic route linking Brooklyn, Pretoria, to the University of Pretoria main campus.
Drawing from the suburb's modernist heritage, this project references the 1960s work of deceased architect John Claassens.
A Claassens-designed house on the site's southern edge was refurbished as shared social and study spaces – while the building's distinctive waved facade reinterprets the spatial and material qualities of Brooklyn's local modernist architecture within a contemporary student-living environment.
