The Natural Materials Lab has designed the Muddy Stools furniture series.

Muddy Stools merge robotic fabrication with earth, agricultural fibres, horse manure and algae-derived additives to create intricate furniture objects that are simultaneously ancient and futuristic.

Developed at Columbia GSAPP's Natural Materials Lab, the stools contain an exceptionally high 60 per cent fibre content, including hemp, wheat straw and banana fibre.

Commissioned for Columbia GSAPP's Affirmations series and exhibited during the London Design Festival, this project reimagines vernacular building materials as contemporary design artefacts – while challenging assumptions about waste, luxury and material value.
