Okana Centre for Change
by Laura Katharina Straehle & Ellen Rouwendal

The Okana Centre for Change is a prototypical pavilion structure for public use in Kenya.

The building hosts a library, tailoring workshop, bakery, community spaces and ICT rooms. Simplicity, low-tech solutions and an understandable design process were crucial in delivering the project successfully with the locals, workers and international students. Within two years from initial idea to finished construction, the students proved that the design fulfils its goals of creating architecture with a strong societal impact.
