VATRAA has designed an apartment for a newlywed couple in Romania.

A series of dichotomies feature in the design, as cold-warm, textured-smooth or banal-unique elements come together to create spaces that are both cosy and austere.

By using contrast and complementarity as a design tool, the firm highlighted the beauty of expressive materials like concrete, brick, wood and leather.

This strategy was used from the overall atmosphere to the smallest details, from general finishes to bespoke pieces of joinery and lighting, to offer a continuous experience of discovery where each material tells a story of its own.

This project has been longlisted in the apartment interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
