New Glass Now
by Studio Joseph

Alex Fradkin

Studio Joseph created an exhibition space that aimed to reduce the sense of separation between art and audience.

One hundred artists, designers, and architects from more than 25 countries bring the medium of glass to life in this immersive exhibition, featuring objects, lighting, videos, and multimedia installations, curated by Studio Joseph.

New Glass Now was curated from an open call of international submissions. Many visitors are not familiar with the traditions of display in art museums, so there was an intentional use of enclosures and protections for all pieces.

The challenge was to make this gallery still feel inviting and reduce the sense of separation between art and audience, which was done through clear and frosted Gorilla glass at varying heights.

Although each object had a different artistic intention there is a narrative thread of glass as a medium and a muse in this highly abstract exhibition design.

This project has been longlisted in the exhibition design project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
