Makridis Associates has regenerated a Roman-era city square in Thessaloniki, Greece that pays homage to the archaeological sites of the surrounding area.
At the same time the study unified the fragmented urban area and enhanced its functionality and aesthetics.
Urban space is distinguished by its use of continuous curves and tapering paths which expand into and contrast with wider rest areas.
Neatly scattered green spaces serve to further unify the urban site. The result was the creation of an exemplary single urban hub facing the iconic sea front.
This project has been longlisted in the landscape project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
