Shenzhen Horizontal Design has designed Zhang Yan Cultural Museum to revive and rehabilitate Zhang Yan Village in China.
The studio aimed to avoid dominating and reconstructing the building, and equally did not want to return and repair the building to its old form.
Instead, it strives to follow the development and context of the building's history, and provides the space with a contemporary and conscientious update.
This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
