The Tiing
by Nic Brunsdon

Public vote winner for hospitality building of the year: The Tiing is a 14-room boutique hotel on the northern coast of Bali, designed by Australian architect Nic Brunsdon.

Due to its remote location, the design deliberately leans on traditional materials and construction techniques, while providing a robust conceptual framework; a rugged regionalism.

Concrete and bamboo are abundant, so the studio worked with these materials throughout; for doors, shutters, walls, fences, details, and importantly, as the formwork for the project's heavy organising walls, expressing the texture of the material in the patina of the concrete.

This is a place for unwinding and reconnecting to the self.
