Dezeen Awards 2021 judge Petra Blaisse

Petra Blaisse is lead designer of Inside Outside, specialised in interior design, landscape architecture, exhibition and textile design.

Blaisse comes from a background in artistic craft and the applied arts. In 1978, she started working for the department of applied arts at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

From 1986 onwards, Blaisse worked as a freelance exhibition designer. After creating a series of award-winning installations and exhibitions with OMA, she acquired knowledge on the use of light, composition, colour, materials and acoustics to create environments that would impact her later work.

Blaisse first gained international acclaim for her use of textiles and finishes in interior spaces.

In 1991 she founded Inside Outside. The studio works in close collaboration with teams of renowned architects, botanists and gardeners, engineers, artists, and textile manufacturers worldwide.

A retrospective anthology on Inside Outside titled "From A to Z and Onward", in collaboration with gta curators Niels Olsen and Fredi Fischli and with Walther König as the publisher, is currently forthcoming.

Blaisse has lectured in Europe, Asia and the United States. She has been a guest lecturer for the University of Tokyo, UCLA, Harvard University, TU Delft, Cornell University, ARCAM, TedXTilburg, and many other prestigious platforms and universities.

Blaisse will be judging the interiors categories alongside partner at Inside Outside Aura Luz Melis and landscape architect and partner Jana Crepon.
