Sumayya Vally
Sumayya Vally is the founder and principal of inter-disciplinary architectural studio Counterspace in Johannesburg.
Sumayya Vally considers her design, research and pedagogical practice is committed to finding expression for hybrid identities and contested territories, with Johannesburg serving as her research laboratory.
She currently leads Unit 12: An African Almanac at the Graduate School of Architecture, University of Johannesburg, where she has taught since 2015.
Vally is based between Johannesburg and London as the lead designer for the Serpentine Pavilions 2020/20 Plus 1.
