Erweiterung Kunsthaus Zürich
by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin

Noshe

The extension adds a new, freestanding museum building to the Kunsthaus Zürich.

The extension adds a new, freestanding museum building to the Kunsthaus Zürich. An expansive entrance hall creates a link between the urban square situated to the south of the extension and the Garden of Art to the north. A visitor passageway running underneath the square connects the new building with the existing Kunsthaus. All public functions are arranged around the central entrance hall. The two upper floors -characterised by a calm materiality and an abundance of daylight- are reserved exclusively for the display of art. The architectural identity is modelled on traditional stone façades, as found in the existing Kunsthaus.

This project has been longlisted in the culturalbuilding category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
