Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art
by Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects

Daici Ano

The Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art is a renovation project conducted by ATTA, completed in April 2020.

The museum has been built in Hirosaki, located in western Aomori Prefecture, Northern Japan. During the design process, ATTA was inspired by the memory of the city and the existing historical brick building. “Continuous memories” was chosen for the project concept to inherit the history of the warehouse and building. The museum is recognised as an outstanding outcome to showcase a way of preserving brick architecture in Japan.

This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
