Our collection of contemporary hand-knotted carpets is inspired by ‘Kolam’, the ancient folk-art drawn at the entrance of South Indian homes to usher in good fortune.
Composed of rice flour, lines and curved loops are drawn around an underlying grid of dots, bringing together the systematic and intuitive, mathematical and organic. This forms the basis of our design approach. Symmetry is of key importance to the Kolam artist. While we preserve the rules of symmetry in individual forms, we break free in the overall compositions creating richly layered and dynamic studies in color and form.
