Nakamata Laboratory Store
by Fumiko Takahama Architects

Hideaki Hamada

The Nakamata Laboratory Store is a retail interior for a confectionery brand that intersects a futuristic "lab" with a traditional teahouse to create a space that breeds playfulness and sparks conversation.

The project is meant to bring energy to a suburb in the up-and-coming city of Maebashi by creating a space that is simultaneously a community hub and an iconic point of interest for the city. Through deliberate, understated design, the interior carves out an innovative yet welcoming space for Maebashi residents and visitors alike.

This project has been longlisted in the small retail interior category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
