Imaise house
by Tatsuya Kawamoto + Associates

Japanese studio Tatsuya Kawamoto + Associates has designed a house with a wide, open interior and a high resistance to earthquakes.

In a region where earthquakes are frequent, the house is an innovative and beneficial approach, combining high earthquake resistance with large openings.

By creating a 'gate frame' composed only of small cross-sectional beams, it is possible to achieve a span of 8.0 m that can not normally be reached by a single beam, realising a large space. We believe that architecture will gain sustainability by solving the demands of residents and the development and regulations of the land, and by building rooted in the land.

This project has been shortlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
